Read this before buying this expansion....,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: World of Warcraft: Cataclysm - PC (Standard Edition) (Video Game)If your new to WOW, buying this for a friend or just a bit dense like me.... Keep in mind that you (or your friend) MUST have the previous two expansion sets, "Burning Crusade" AND "Wrath of the Lich King".
I'm sure that to long time players of WOW this is not news, but it was to me and it's something that Amazon and Blizzard need to make just a bit clearer in their marketing.

It's clear on the package but Amazon's website doesn't state that. Luckily, those previous expansions are dirt cheap right now.

Good point G.T., the previous expansions are dirt cheap AND the retail package does tell you.
I started WOW in the last 90 days just because the new races/new areas looked VERY cool.
So, I just wanted to make sure all the noobs and gift giving parents/grandparents/friends knew what they were looking at.

This isn't surprising but it is disappointing; I couldn't find any mention on WOW's Cataclysm pages that stated the earlier expansions were necessary, whereas it IS stated that BC is needed for the Lich King Expansion. I thought Cat. would be a great re-entry point for WOW, but I guess not.

I am voting this review as helpful because I think it will help others. The more of us that do the same the better the chance of it reaching it's intended audience.
Enjoy the x-pac everyone.

And here's an update...
If you've been playing WOW lately.... you do NOT need to install ANY of the three expansion packs.
You do need to buy them and then go to battlenet.com to activate the expansions by entering the code on the disc sleeve.
Apparently all the data for the expansion has been in the last several patches.
If you do attempt to install them from disc (even Cataclysm!) you will have to re-download ALL the recent patches!!!
Doing it this way WILL eliminate several hours of frustration.

Yes, as some have already said, it is on the Package, but not on the Website. For long time players like myself, we know this, but when I first started playing, this happened to me too. I remember seeing somewhere that they were selling all the expansions except Cataclysm for $5-10.00. Good luck getting them!

For what it's worth....
I've only bought a few items from Amazon... Gran Turismo 5, some vintage Asimov paperbacks and a vintage plastic model. GT5 is flooded with reviews and I had nothing new to add. And I didn't really feel the need to review a vintage plastic model kit OR 30 year old paper backs.

Funny Javaku, I would think that a blizz employee would be against this review, rather than complaining to the product that blizzard makes.
Do you think before you say anything? Or rather, do you read before making retarded comments?
For what you're worth, in reviewing products, you're not in any good shape. You give either 5 star or 1 star on products. Cough.
