Buyer Beware --- Not Geniune Briggs and Stratton Part,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Briggs & Stratton 491588S Flat Air Filter Cartridge (Lawn & Patio)
I rebuild old mowers and give them away to people in need. I ordered 10 Briggs and Stratton 491588S Air Filters. The ad clearly says "by Briggs and Stratton". The picture in the ad clearly has the B&S logo. However, what Interstate Supplies and Services shipped was a "knock off" and not the Geniune B&S Part. It comes in a package marked "Proven Part" "Made in China". The Air Filters I received look exactly like the Briggs Part.
I wanted the Genuine B&S Filter because I know they are reliable which is important when I give a mower to someone. I have no idea how these will perform. Maybe they will be OK, maybe not. However, the ad and picture are misleading. I do not mind buying off-brand parts when I am told in advance. What I do mind is being part of a "bait and switch" scam.
So, if you are dealing with Interstate Supplies and Services, you may or may not get exactly what you order.

Thank you for your warning--much appreciated.

Your right, a lot of knock-off parts "look like" the original but don't perform the same. This is a critical part of a engine. An inferior part will eventually cause damage to the engine and, if the mower is still under warranty, you're out of luck.

Just found the webpage for Briggs and Stratton to order the original filter. The UPS cost is around 12 bucks (for my area in NC) so it does drive up the cost of the individual filter. For me, it's worth the piece of mind...

I just received the three I ordered and they appear to be genuine B&S filters. I had the same concern that I might be getting a knock off (especially due to the great price i got). Sad to hear they would deceive like that.

The original comment may have been true when the buyer purchased it, but I purchased it in 2013 and it was genuine part.

I just received one myself, and it is a cheap Chinese imitation. The seller has a picture of the OEM part, which is very misleading.
