Works great in my '98 Toyota Avalon!,

This review is from: Clarion CX501 Double-DIN CD/Bluetooth/USB Receiver (Electronics)
I purchased this receiver to replace a Pioneer DEH-P5800MP which I purchased about 5 years ago. I liked the Pioneer unit but I really wanted to have a double-DIN unit. This receiver fits perfectly in my '98 Avalon. Using the Metra 70-8112 harness (actually, 2 of them - I'll explain later) for my XLS with the amp, the installation was quick and easy. I had no issue with using just one antenna (even though the car has two). The sound is clear and the reception is great.
So far, I've changed the color, time, audio settings, screen saver and set up bluetooth. OK, so it took a little bit to get my phone actually paired with the device (the code is 1234, BTW). Playing Pandora through this unit is an absolute joy! I haven't utilized the phone through it but I don't really need it because my DROID Bionic has a great speaker anyway.
I don't take too much from the reviews that state that it's difficult to use. Every after-market receiver takes a bit of time to get used to it and once you know your receiver, you're golden.
As for the harness, I read that purchasing 2 of the Metra harnesses would allow me to use the illumination dimmer when turning on your headlights. So, I ripped one of them apart and pulled one of the leads out of the one I broke apart and put it into an empty solt on the good one (you attach it in between the blue/white and red wires). Then I wired it together with the orange wire from the head-unit. Now, I have a working illumination dimmer. Not that big of a deal but for the extra $4.xx, it was worth it for me.
Don't waste an extra $65 buying from Crutchfield, buy it here and buy it now!
