Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Henge Docks Vertical Docking Station for the 15-inch MacBook Pro Mid 2010-Current (Accessory)
Well, I purchased this dock after looking at several MacBook Pro 15" stands on here. I even read the reviews first and decided to try it anyway.
Summary: I am using it as a "vertical stand," with all the cables coming out the top. It's actually a very solid feeling stand, but the docking part was just too much effort to get to work for me to bother with it. Overall, it's way overpriced and next time I'll go with the Twelve South stand instead, along with a (future) Thunderbolt-based "dock" which replicates all the necessary ports (USB, FW800, Ethernet, and audio), so I'll just have two connections (Power, Thunderbolt) whenever I dock.
I haven't yet decided if I will return the item. I'll use it for a week and see.
The particular reasons I didn't like the dock portion:
1. You can't use your own cables. This in and of itself was a dealbreaker for me, as they don't supply male-to-female extension cables for all the ports. Well, you can use SOME of your own cables, but only if they fit in the dock, which (for example) my Firewire 800 cable didn't. Cables they didn't include: optical audio cables, FW800 male-to-female cable, Thunderbolt male-to-female cable (not sure if that would even work given Thunderbolt's design), Ethernet male-to-female cable.
2. The supplied male-to-female audio cable is not compatible with the iPhone headset. It has only 3 conductors instead of the required four, so you can't use your iPhone headset with Skype with this thing.
3. I couldn't figure out a way to turn on the laptop from powered off, without removing it from the dock. I use a wireless mouse and keyboard, but maybe the wired keyboard has an on button.
