1.0 out of 5 stars Seriously? Couldn't finish, quit at 40%, May 3, 2012

This review is from: Human Property Hanging in the Family Tree Yields a Harvest (Kindle Edition)
This book was not written by an author. It just cannot have been. The grammatical errors are so distracting, the flow is stacatto, and the author assumes (because she simply cannot know) many of the thoughts and emotions, not to mention making up filler between events. Make it fiction and make it interesting already. I love history, but I couldn't finish this book. If you're looking for what this book COULD have been, try Lalita Tademy's "Cane River".Cane River (Oprah's Book Club)

This book was great from start to finish. The author is an excellent writer. The book is a collection of stories that were not made up fillers. The author and co-researcher, researched, for 7 years the oral history, in which the book is based on. If you read the introduction, it clearly states that her history was passed down from generation to generation, so she knew the thoughts and emotions of her ancestors. This book is a five star winner. I like real non-fiction events. The flow is also great she takes you from the colonial period to the Civil Rights Era, while incorporating TRUE LIFE EVENTS/HER FAMILY'S EXPERIENCE
WOW!

Thank you Megan for setting the record straight. Mr/Ms "B* Doll probably normally comic books and doesn't know what history is ESPECIALLY OLD SOUTH history. I am a from the south and damn well proud of it and I know that this history is true.

Sorry Prin, I'm only from Alabama and have had "Old South" history shoved down my throat all my life. While my critique was of the book, you choose to critique me. Not what this forum is for. Also, I said nothing of the events being untrue, only that "the author assumes (because she simply cannot know) many of the thoughts and emotions", and I said nothing about "Old South" history being something not to be proud of (though "proud" is not a word I personally would choose). Please read my review and comprehend before commenting.
