the reason not to buy this,
This review is from: Harry Potter Years 1-7 Part 1 Gift Set [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
The reason not to buy this is that they aren't the extended editions that will inevitably come out. If you are like me and are extremely upset at buying a movie and then have an extended edition come out right after, don't buy this or any of your favorites until the extended editions come out. And if you are listening Hollywood, we want the cut scenes IN THE MOVIE, not features to be looked at separately.

this is a product that is simply a collection, its much cheaper than buying all dvd sets altogether. sure, if there's an extended set coming out, it will be better. but those extended versions take time to produce, edit, and release. until then this is the best you get, and is usually satisfactory to people who don't need 45 minutes added to the 2 1/2 hour average harry potter movie

Good luck holding your breath for that extra stuff to come out when you want it. Doesn't sound like you have much DVD-buying experience, IMO.

No, not much. I only own about 30 BRD and over 500 DVD. Not to mention hundreds of VHS I would like to get rid of. Not much buying exp at all.
On the other hand as a writer I think Rowland was a genius and HP is a masterpiece. As far as the films go, she evidently didn't have brains enough to do what Jackson did with LotR and film almost everything with an eye towards extended editions right from the beginning. So there probably will never be extended editions of more than a couple minutes. Shame, perfect cast too. I would say that a definitive production of HP that is true to the books will have to wait. It will probably not be done by live actors again because these films are so good. Someday, after CG is near perfect (10 years?) an animated CG version of all the HP books will be done that won't leave anything out.

Rowland?? The author's name is Rowling...and what on earth would she have to do with the extended versions. She isn't the director(s) of the HP films. Extended versions are usually unnecessary. Just give me the original movies. Scenes are usually cut for a reason.

I'm on the fence with this set. I'm sure it will be a while before there's an extended set with Pts. 1 and 2.
Sometimes a scene is cut because of time constraints. Sometimes a scene is cut just because it's not a good scene. So even if you're watching it at home with plenty of time, it actually detracts from the movie rather than adding to the experience.
This set will be fine for a lot of people and at fifty bucks it's a good deal. As long as it's the theatrical release, I don't think it's a bad choice.
