Preachy and Slow,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Detachment (John Rain) (Kindle Edition)
I never thought I would struggle to finish a John Rain. I've read all the previous John Rain books more than once. Here the action was sparse and what there was of it was sandwiched between snipes at how herd like the American population is. The sermonizing about our post 9/11 civil liberties being eroded by our manipulative government was excessive. Who was the intended audience for this book? Paul Krugman, Ward Churchill a card carrying member of the ACLU? It was a slow, hard to finish read. Try Thomas Perry's The Informant instead if you want an exciting true to it's roots continuation of a stone cold killer's exploits. Not this..

I thank you for the review. I bought the book anyway, but I'm prepared for a slower read than I would have expected. I also thank you for the recommendation for the Thomas Perry book. I had read his series on the woman who helped people disappear and loved his writing style. For some reason I haven't read any of his books lately, but I bought The Informant based on your comment (and past pleasure in his books) and I think I'm almost ready for a long cold winter now. Herbed tea and a good book are a sure way to enjoy a cold, snowy day!
