After I had many internet drop outs from my External US Robotics Modem, Model U13-4292 PN USR 5637, for my lap top, I read a review about it and found out why this was happening. Apparently from this reviewer after the Robotics Modem gets too hot after a few hours of use it may become unstable and begin to intermittently drop your Internet connection. I then began a search for a better external modem and found the Zoom USB Mini External Modem Model 3095. It had no reviews, good or bad at the time so I thought I would try it out. Am I ever glad I made that decision. This Zoom Modem has performed flawlessly ever since I got it on 10-1-11. Not one drop out ever, not even after 8 hours of continuous use. Another thing that I am pleased with is that I can hear it dialing and making a connection through my speakers and hear the handshaking sounds that I could not hear with my US Robotics. I am well pleased with its performance and would recommend it as a good buy.

8-17-12 When I switched from my lap top with Vista to my new PC with Win 7 I lost the dial up sounds but found out how to get them back. To get the dial up sounds for Win 7. Go to control panel and select, Sound. Next at sound in addition to checking Speakers for my speakers sound I also checked the SPDIF Out. For the Default Communications Device. Without having this checked you get no sounds from your Zoom Modem. Also at your modem dial up connection properties go to properties and then Configure and check the box that says, Enable modem speaker. Today is Aug, 7 2012 and my Zoom modem is still working just fine and no drop outs or any other problems. I love my Zoom modem after all of the drop out problems with my US Robotics modem.
