This review is from: Curcumin Complex 90% Curcuminoids 875 mg 60 Caps Made in USA by Swanson (Health and Beauty)
I thought this was a pretty good product until I opened a bottle (with a good expiration date) and found it to be rancid. I called Swanson customer service who told me to mail it back to them and they would take appropriate action. I sent it back and didn't hear back from them regarding it so I emailed Swanson customer service. Their chain of emails goes like this: (1st) they found where I purchased it under warranty but have no record I returned it and do I have any idea which of the many account numbers they have assigned to me where the purchase might be found; (2) the CSR wrote: the last time we show that you actually ordered this product was back on January of 2010 (ten months ago) we are also unable to locate any other account for you where this product may have been purchased recently. (The warranty is for twelve months.) Please accept our apologizes for any inconvenience. If we can be of further assistance, please let us know! (3) we do not show that you returned this product with your recent return. We have looked through the inventory list of what was in the box for both your recent returns and this product was not included. As we do not have a recent order with the product nor a bottle to look at, we are unable to issue a credit or send a replacement. (At this point I asked to be referred to a supervisor.) (4) (The same CSR emailed me back with the following message) After reviewing your entire account, we did finally find the product that you sent back. This item was purchased on an order back on July, 6th, 2008. This is well over one year since the date of purchase. Please note that while the product may still have been within the expiration date, we are unable to issue a credit or replacement for products that were purchased over 1 year ago. We are able to tell when the product was purchased based on the expiration date and lot number of the product.
I would be amazed if this bottle was something I bought in 2008, would also be amazed that the expiration date from a bottle purchased in 2008 would still be good, and all that aside... the bottle was rancid and the date was good, they accepted the return, didn't notify me there was a problem, and when I asked about it got no consistent answers, and when I asked to be referred to a supervisor, was not.

Steely Blue says:
This is the first I have heard of curcumin allegedly going rancid. I have used this particular product for years now, and have not observed a single bottle to be anything but normal. Can you perhaps elaborate on what you meant by rancid in this case?
