I have the 16GB version. I like the small form factor. It is formatted in FAT32. I reformatted the drive to NTFS. Read speed is ok but write speed is slow. Don't bother to save big files to the drive. It will look like it freezes when you try to save a big file to the drive.
I mainly use the drive for backing up my files from my laptop. I tried to backup a 2 GB file to the drive. It took forever to save the file.

I'll second that. I copied 4gb of photos to it and the speed was horrible. The write process took almost 30 minutes while my usb hard drive copied the same files in about 5.

Since you reformatted it to NTFS, be sure to turn the write cache.

Please, compare the sizes of this and a Hard Drive. A Smart car can't go as fast as a sports car right? But of course the Smart car wins in price, efficiency, and size (physical, not storage capacity.)

Two points I would make to that:
1. Size shouldn't have much to do with it. A hard disk drive is a completely different technology; it's more like comparing a Smart car to a steam engine.
2. Write speed is incredibly important to a lot of computer users who may be using this drive. For me personally, a USB drive this small is awesome but if it takes forever to read/write to it then the tradeoff isn't worth it. It's important for possible buyers to be aware of this deficiency.

Copying small files to the drive is pretty fast. The most annoying thing is that when progress bar shows 5 seconds left to completion can actually last for minutes and the drive is inaccessible.

I noticed the same problem as bz with the 32GB version. It just doesn't handle large files well at all. I was trying to save some 4GB files, and that just doesn't work with this flash drive. I have other Sandisk flash drives that don't exhibit this problem, and was thinking that the one I have was defective, but apparently it's just an issue with this particular model.

I can confirm this drive is MUCH MUCH slower than other flash drives when writing. My three other flash/thumb drives get transfers three or four times as fast. I don't know if it has to do with limitations/compromises for the size but it is definitely a hassle to use for larger files.
