A BIG Book for Small Business,
This review is from: The Age of the Platform: How Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google Have Redefined Business (Paperback)
Ever since I've read and reviewed Phil Simon's first book "The New Small", I've seen him as someone with a unique insight into how technology impacts small business.
Phil Simon's latest book "The Age of the Platform: How Apple, Facebook and Google Have Redefined Business" expands on this idea by outlining how these behemoth brands actually used some basic thinking to thrive. At first, I thought this was going to be a book for small business. But when I got inside of it, I realized this was a book for a much broader audience:
Business owners will learn how to adapt the thought process and strategies that Facebook, Amazon, Apple and Google used to leverage their strengths.
Employees will learn how to become more valuable to their organizations -- and sought out in their industry and
Free Agents will learn how to leverage their personal brand in a way that sets them up for success.
The Age of the Platform contains a HUGE idea. I think the idea is as important and big as concepts such as The Long Tail or Groundswell. It's biggest downfall is that Simon sacrificed doing years of research to get the idea out into the market quickly. Some see this as a negative, I see it as a positive.
In his practical, no nonsense style, Simon communicates the idea and practical ways to apply the platform context to your business and your life. It's not a book written by a journalist or character-weaving writer -- it's a book written by an expert user and real live person -- like you.
I'd recommend The Age of the Platform to anyone who is not only watching the world of technology unfold but playing in the technology sandbox.
