5.0 out of 5 stars Plug-and-Play easy, Energy Star rated Power Adaptor, February 6, 2010

This review is from: ARRIS / Motorola SURFboard SB5101U DOCSIS 2.0 Cable Modem - Non-Retail Packaging (Brown Box) (Personal Computers)
Works great. Easy, hassle-free setup, no software install required, just connect the cables, call your cable company to register the modem over the phone and you're done.

This is the only Energy Star rated cable modem I could find. Power adaptor is compact and electronic--not a brick-- so it doesn't get hot or waste energy.

I am glad you noted that it was an ENERGY STAR product. I wish more people would pay attention to the energy expended by what they purchase. Thanks!

Totally!! These things pull about 10 watts of electricity an hour! At that rate of usage with a KWhr cost of $0.12 it will cost almost 3 cents a day to run your modem! If you're worried about energy star appliances with things like modems don't waste your time. You most likely waste more energy opening the door to leave your house than this thing will use in an hour

I am pretty sure he was not talking about saving 3 cents a day. I read the reviewer's point as if everyone switched to energy saving appliances, it would be better for the environment.

This is a very helpful review for me because I use a VOIP phone system that needs to run off a UPS when the power goes out. The lower the wattage for the critical devices (to maintain phone service) the longer the runtime for the UPS.
