THEY KILLED IT,
This review is from: Call of Duty: Black Ops - PC (DVD-ROM)This series died after Call of Duty 4. That was the start of a downhill battle that the devs waged against their loyal fans and continues with call of duty black ops. To be fair, Infinity Ward, the original creators of the series made three really amazing PC shooters in the WWII genre. Skill was required, the fan base was full of people who had to, and were willing to buy a powerful PC to gain the full experience, but we were willing to do it because the games they put out were top notch. Some years ago Activision took the axe to Infinity Ward and caused the original creators to abandon the series that they perfected and their loyal fans had made so popular. When it became more profitable to focus this popular series on the consoles, that is exactly what they did. This was a huge slap in the face to all the PC gamers who have played the series since Call of Duty, which was orignially a PC exclusive. All the fame and fortune this brand now produces has created a degrading quality of game for the PC gamers that STARTED this series on it's rise to fame. PC game developers really need to look at this series and see how many PC gamers are willing to NOT buy these games anymore. Hollywood started making money and largely stopped making art. Let's not let the mighty dollar kill the great experience of PC gaming. People are spending thousands of dollars on their rigs, and yes it is a smaller market than consoles, but these people are LOYAL and can APPRECIATE good games. If you make good games for a fair price, people will have no problem buying them. Unfortunately Call of Duty: Black Ops is just another example of the stranglehold these big greedy corporations currently have on the gaming industry. Looks like i'll still be sticking with Valve and the few small game creators that are still making great games at affordable prices for the dedicated, and loyal PC gamers that still exist. We will not pay for games that are dumbed-down, over-priced, and under developed. The amazon reviews like mine make this pretty clear. Don't let the greedy corporations sell you garbage like this, if we demand games that have a learning curve that gives a high reward for success, and not just simple games for the masses, then they will deliver.

A good analysis of the sad state of the CoD franchise for the PC market. I'll be joining the ranks of PC gamers who will boycott this insult and other games like it, thanks to reviews like yours and others at Amazon.

Agree 100%. Im getting tired of this. We enrich companies because they make good games, then they turn around and screw us over by compromising on the multi-platform gambit.. Wish the executives would wake up and smell the reality instead of blaming pirates on PC sales. There are dozens of examples of games that were financialy successfull on the PC only, that went on to be console ports where no self respecting PC gamer would pay money for them.

How are you getting screwed over? Do the developers and publishers owe you something because you purchased their previous games? When you buy a particular game you buy only THAT game, not some kind right to dictate how the following games in the series should be.
I personally despise CoD,especially since they quit the WWII games but so what. Move on. The fact of the matter is that these companies are in business to make a profit by making a video game. They do not exist to provide you some kind of obligatory service with profit being merely a by-product.
Another fact is that, individually, these developers and publishers lose MILLIONS every year to PC piracy. They have to pay their employees and themselves. They have to have money for future investments, etc. The console market doesn't suffer nearly as bad from piracy and it has a much larger customer base. And sadly yes, the developers can spend less on production because the average console gamer couldn't care less about anything more than graphics and 3rd grade mindlessness. In light of these circumstances it's only natural that they'd make the shift to consoles. My suggestion would be to be an outspoken opponent of piracy. Tell people what you think of them, how sorry they are and how they are basically shooting themselves in the foot every time they steal any type of software. Not that they'll probably care since most of them are natural dirtbags anyway but still, it's the principle of the thing.
I do agree that it sucks, absolutely sucks, when a great PC game gets a console port because you just know that the gameplay is going to fall flat on it's ass but hey, they don't owe me anything(except the occasional much-needed patch) after I buy their product nor do I owe them.
As for "smelling the reality", don't you think that when it comes to where to invest the dollars these big corporations have a somewhat better grasp of reality than you do?

I think maybe you're wrong. Have you try Modern Warfare 2? It's so great. I have no problem so far. It's even much better than Modern Warfare 1. I've played around 150 games since '97. It's among top tiers (around 30 games) of my favorites.

The only way developers will ever change their console port garbage is if people quit buying these games for consoles, and I don't see that happening. The PC gamers have no hope, and I am one of them. It's not the developers fault, it's the people's fault for buying consoles and somehow getting this thought into their heads that consoles are better. Consoles suck!!! The PC used to have the superior graphics until all of the console addicted fiends started "telling" the developers through buying their console games that they all love consoles. If you PC guys want to make a difference, then only buy games for PC, even if you own a console...It's the only d*** way!!
