Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: SquareTrade 2-Year Computer Accident Protection Plan ($1500-2000) (Personal Computers)
When I bought a $2000 refurbished Sony laptop online (I won't say the retail site it wasn't amazon.com and they sell refurbished laptops a lot :)), I figured I needed to buy a 3rd party warranty for it. After all it was refurbished and Sony isn't going to cover much other than hardware failure. After some research I tried squaretrade and signed up for a 3 year Accident protection and warranty. It cost me $400 roughly and I was a little hesitant at first but man was I glad I did that when after 2 years my SONY VAIO Z LAPTOP HARD DRIVE CRASHED ON ME. At this point, I had a choice to either 1. buy a new HD, open up my laptop and replace it myself, thereby voiding my warranty completely, or 2. file a claim with Squaretrade and see if they can fix it. I wasn't sure if a new hard drive would totally solve my problem and fix my laptop so I went ahead and called Squaretrade first. I figured if they can't help me I will try the first option to try and fix it myself. They promptly sent me shipping labels and gave me a call back after about a week and told me that the hard drive failure could not be fixed, the problem was with the manufacture/hard ware, and said that they would issue me my $2000 refund via paypal along with the remaining warranty fee prorated for the amount I signed up for (about 2 years in this case. Squaretrade's coverage starts after manufacturer's warranty runs out, so if you buy 3 years you really are covered for 4 years)
Even though my laptop crapped out on me and they couldn't fix it, I'm still happy because I got my $2000 back and a little cash back for the unused warranty period. Needless to say I went ahead and used that money for a new laptop along with warranty for it from Square trade again. I highly recommend them if you need a 3rd party warranty for anything expensive. They are fair, professional, and quick to file claims. no hidden costs. I wish all warranty companies were like them.
