This is my top pick of biographies to read for African American History Month or anytime,
This review is from: I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings (Mass Market Paperback) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is one of my favorite biographies of all time. It made me laugh, and cry, and acquainted me with a strong heroic real contemporary woman. February is African American history month, and I highly recommend celebrating the month by reading any of Ms. Angelou’s biographies. You really haven’t lived until you have read all of Ms. Angelou’s biographies. This is a must read series for all young women. Maya Angelou is an excellent strong role model, as Ms. Angelou has lived through and transcended hardships and attained high goals we all want our daughters to achieve!
To the naysayers who say there is too much sex and reference to sex in this book: As a high school English teacher who asks students what books they like to read, I can tell you that teens are already reading a lot more shocking and vulgar books containing sexual content. This book does not use disrespectful or vulgar language. This is a true story and most teens can handle the truth and should be confronted by the truth so they can make better choices themselves.
