Should appeal to fans of J-Pop, but not others...,
This review is from: DanceMasters - Xbox 360 (Video Game)If you are familiar with J-Pop (Japanese pop) this title may appeal to you. Most songs will be unfamiliar to Western audiences. Culturally, this game is very Japanese. The narrator's voice is a high-pitched girl like you would find in a lot of Japanese animation. Unlike Dance Central, you are not required to exactly match the onscreen dancer's moves through the entire song. Instead, your movements must match at specific times only. There are onscreen icons that you must touch at specific times, giving this more of a "game" feeling than Dance Central. Interestingly, some moments require you to make noise as well. This game is an interesting concept, but its lack of music recognizable to Western audiences is a major shortcoming. There should be an option to change the narrator's voice as well.

So was DDR. Konami didn't have a problem then.

From what I have seen, I actually like the music in this game a lot better than the music in Dance Central, but I must just enjoy this kind of music better. I did use to play DDR so they may be one reason, I do agree that the music can be a turn off for a lot of people. Honestly the biggest reason people are knocking this game is the music, so I may pick this up to go along with Dance Central.

I think it's important to state that there isn't ANY J-Pop in this game, contrary to this reviewer's comments. There is a lot of music pulled from DDR new and old (DanceMania-type songs) and some Eurobeat licensed from Avex, but it's mostly Konami Originals. Don't buy this game expecting any JPOP, because it's not there! Not to say it wouldn't be welcome as DLC, though :)

Dance Dance Revolution was a big hit with American audiences due to it's European dance soundtrack. Recent versions of DDR; however, include mostly American Top 40 and well-known songs, causing the series to go on a downward spiral. Dance Masters is what many of us have been asking for in terms of its soundtrack, and I hope, eventually, for you too. :) Enjoy.
