What I really needed for having a newborn,
This review is from: How to Have Your Second Child First: 100 Things That Are Good to Know... the First Time Around (Paperback)
This was a great book for giving good advice and a realistic perspective to new parents. I had lots of time to read and prepare for having a newborn. I was going to do my best to follow all the experts' advice and best practices for my baby.
Then I had a newborn and was utterly desperate for anything that would stop the crying and constant hunger. By Day 3 I had given her a pacifier. By Week 3 I was supplementing with formula. I had no energy to sing and stimulate her with conversation during nursing sessions. I quickly broke every resolution I had made and felt miserable about it.
This book saved my guilty conscience with its practical outlook and parenting tips. Yes, I've done things for my 8-week-old that were unplanned and not the high standards that I had imagined, but my baby is healthy, active, and sleeping happily, and I'm relaxed and happy too. So just relax because everything will turn out fine.
This book has a very approachable, easy to read format that is perfect for busy parents. Highly recommended book, particularly for parents who plan, research, and worry.
