2.0 out of 5 stars 2 Stars for Joby knockoff from Targus., June 27, 2008

This is a video review for the Targus Grypton Portable Tripod, which appears to be a rebranded Joby GP1 (edit: cheap knockoff). It was purchased at a Radio Shack for $9.99, normally priced at $14.99, a little cheaper than the Joby. On my first trip with the tripod, it fell from 3 feet from the car it was resting on when someone closed the car door. One of the ball joints on the tripod cracked, but thankfully didn't break my camera! It could still be used level, only at certain angles as shown in the video. Then I superglued the cracked balljoint, which fixed the problem, but lost some flexibility. The main issues were durability, and stability (especially with a camera that has an offset tripod mount). Definitely go for the Joby over this 'deal.'
Camera used - Pentax Optio WPi.

The Targus Grypton happens to be a Gorillapod look-alike. There are other websites talking about how similar they are, but seems like the original is built better.

Thank you for the FAST video review. I can't stand these people that ponticifcate for up to 10 minutes about 'stuff'! Good job!

Good review.

Very bad idea.

Why post a negative review on the Gorillapod unit when you're reviewing a cheap knockoff? It lowers the rating of the real thing. Please go review thie Targus in a Targus post, not a Gorillapod post.
