5.0 out of 5 stars Tells the complete story of the persecution and tragedy suffered by alternative Christians, August 27, 2007
The Tragic History of Esoteric Christianity: The Church's War Against the Spirit of Sophia.

Byrne outlines the whole sad and tragic story of what alternative believers have been subjected to over the years. He shows the truth of Jesus' prophecy, "You will be persecuted and reviled, even killed, because of me."

Esoteric Christians, alternative Christians (sometimes called Gnostic Christians due to overlapping doctrines and philosophy) are coming out of the woodwork now, despite the suffering our forbears endured in centuries past. This book and Inner Christianity, by Richard Smoley, give us our history, show us our roots. Connect to the inner esoteric side of your heritage, claim the REAL Christianity of your foremothers and forefathers, not what the authoritarian all-male church heirarchy wants you to blindly accept.

Thanks Sean Byrne for a thoroughly researched and easy-to-read history of our "movement" and I hope to meet some of you fellow esoteric readers around the internet. There's a thriving alternative spirituality community out here, c'mon and check it out!

Positive affirmation and encouraging sentiments for a much maligned and negected topic. I think I'll have to read the book now!
