This review is from: Drink: The Intimate Relationship Between Women and Alcohol (Hardcover)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program (What's this?)The author weaves her own story as an alcoholic through the story of changes in American culture that promote drinking among girls, young women, and older women. The changes that have normalized binge and chronic drinking are really frightening (and I see them up close in medicine), but there are some hopeful programs which the author highlights.
Ms. Johnston also shares her own journey of sobriety and healed relationships. She doesn't pull any punches about the effects of alcohol, but this isn't a confessional either. Drink is really a study of women sinking into disease, perhaps more frequently than in the past, with the author as a case in point.
