I am not so sure about Clancy.,
This review is from: The Hunt for Red October (Mass Market Paperback)
Clancy does not rate very well in my opinion. He does have good stories, but I have found only a few that were developed well. This book is no exception, although I would probably give it 3.5 stars if possible. It is a great idea for a story, but it could have been developed better. Shortly into the book, Clancy goes off into a long, detailed account of the life history of one of the main characters. It is nice to know some of the info, but he puts in much unneeded information. Later he does almost the same with another, non-major character. It wasn't near as long, but you didn't need very much of the info at all with it being one of the less major characters.
It isn't too important, but it is rather disturbing because the action is just getting going when he suddenly goes off in an unexpected and partly unneeded direction.
Even so, this was a pretty good book and I would reommend it. It had plenty of action and unexpected happenings. It is definitely a "page-turner" kind of book. Read and enjoy.
