This is camera really a re-badged Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS20 for snobs that want the "Red Dot" on their camera! Let's face it in this class of camera no one is impressed by the Leica logo. The Panasonic takes just as good photos and video for $249.00 with the $50 rebate! True Leica comes with a two years warranty. But for the price of the Leica you can buy 2 Panasonic if it were to break and have money left over. For $700 that the Leica goes for, you can have a pretty descent Micro Four Thirds Mirrorless Camera with interchangeable lenses from Olympus or Panasonic that blow this camera away in terms of image quality and it's not much bigger!

You might also be interested in knowing that although Panasonic makes the lens under a license from Leica the ones put in the Leicas have to meet Leica tolerance quality standards. That means every camera is tested, whereas with the Pansasonics, that isn't done. The Leica also is 1/2 to 3/4 of stop better at high ISO's due to its proprietary image engine. And the Lecia menu is laid out better. Photoshop Elements and the extra year's warranty alone are worth over $170 and partly explains the higher price.

You should put a sock in your smart mouth and actually do some tests with both cameras as I have. But then again, you probably think the Lexus is just an overpriced Camry since they are both made by Toyota.

Sure it does and I guess you believe in the Easter Bunny also! The only different is that Leica's marketing departmen has done a great job convincing people to buy a product at more than double price of what it worth!
If the darn this was made in Germany at least in could be said that the higher labor cost would justify the higher price. This camera is made in Japan.
