1.0 out of 5 stars Paramount Cheat The Fans...AGAIN, December 23, 2008
This review is from: Friday the 13th, Part 2 (Deluxe Edition) (DVD)
Once again Paramount cheat the Friday The 13th Fans. This movie has been issued countless times on VHS and DVD now, and every time its the same censored version missing the infamous 54 seconds of graphic bloodletting.
What is the point? Friday the 13th Part 2 is a good sequel but any fan can't deny its like a burger without the meat. Suspense scenes build and build and then the censor deprives us of the pay-off - basically what we've paid to see. The footage excised from Friday The 13th Part 2 cannot be that extreme - its a studio produced 80' slasher. Its gore will NOT outdo Maniac or The Prowler - what are Paramount so scared of - or maybe they're just lazy. One things for certain, they are greedy, money grabbing corporate scumbags out to exploit the fans of a series of films which have provided them with some of their best revenue (yet they're ashamed of the films).
I for one, will NOT be shelling cash out AGAIN for another cut print of this, or any other Friday movie, just for the sake of a few shoddy, last minute extras.
Paramount need to stop just thinking about their proceeds and consider what the fans want one in a while.

extra features are always worth at least 11 or 12 bucks. I mean I wouldnt pay the full price for a dvd of this version thats bare bones no but cant complain because paramount added features which they really dont have to

Has it occurred to any of you that the extra footage could either not be located or was not in good enough condition to blend in with the rest of the existing R rated version? My only disappointment is that there's not a Paramount Years 8-movie blu-ray box set. At least there isn't one yet, any way.

The Friday the 13th films were negotive pick-ups. That means that Paramount pays other people to make them, and then Paramount buys the films back and distributes them. Friday the 13th Part 2 was made as an independant film by Georgetown Productions. The MPAA looked at it and made them cut the footage. The footage was cut by Georgetown and (possibly thrown away) and then handed over to Paramount. Chances are Paramount never even saw "deleted scenes." Another thing you have to remember is that back in 1980, there was no such thing as a DVD. Nobody was thinking of the extra features on a product 30 years down the road. If anything, don't blame Paramount, blame Steve Miner. He never gave a crap about the film enough to hold onto the delete material. Guys like Tobe Hooper held onto his deleted material which is the reason we have deleted scenes for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) today.

Yes, back then nobody was thinking about dvd or even vhs, really, but there is no film that is just tossed aside. NONE. All things are stored throughout the world in locations as odd as abandoned salt mines. For now the footage just seems to be missing. Paramount has boxes of things related to every film in this franchise. Some of the directors kept the footage that was deleted.
You are right about Steve Miner.
You are so wrong about Paramount. They deserve as much blame as possible. They loathed this series and treated it like a bad secret, but raped it of all the money they could while they had it. And they do it still to this day. Just look at how many previous dvd versions of varying quality that have been released. A box set and now singles with special features, some redundant. Of course they want to make any profit they can. When the flack from idiot groups like the PTA, same morons who got Silent Night, Deadly Night removed from multiplexes, became so heavy that the later sequels suffered the most.

I can't believe I live in a country, a 'free' country, that censorship could happen AT ALL! There's a rating system. Follow it. Read up on the movie. Take responsibility for yourself and your ever-so-impressionalbe little brats.

I heard the cut footage for Part 2 was lost also...but they had the few SECONDS of cut footage from Part 1??? That makes no sense. However they MIGHT be telling the truth. The missing gore from the 1981 "My Bloody Valentine" was found, put back in and issued on DVD. So maybe they're telling the truth but I just have the sneaking suspicion that they're trying to wring every last cent from Part 2 and THEN we'll see an uncut version. Only time will tell.
