Canterbury Tales / Video Quality,
This review is from: Trilogy of Life (The Decameron, The Canterbury Tales, Arabian Nights) (The Criterion Collection) [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
The intermittent thick vertical lines in the middle of 'The Canterbury Tales' are unacceptable for a release with this caliber. Extremely distracting... If I could I would return the set and ask for a refund. (Sorry Amazon, not your fault).

I didn't notice them, so they couldn't have been too distracting.

Tracy H says:
I watched this Criterion Blu Ray of 'The Canterbury Tales' rather carefully, and saw exactly two instances of a pair of narrow lines (reddish, I think) running down the center of the screen, each occurrence lasting about two seconds at the most. Considering the enormous -- truly huge -- improvement over the last generation of dark, fuzzy, severely cropped transfers of this film, I don't think these little lines are worth fussing about.
The technicians at Criterion are not stooges. They did not just miss these inclusions during a bathroom break. They chose to leave these lines rather than scrubbing them out, and there was a reason for that decision. I do not know if these lines also occur in the BFI blu ray versions or not.
