5.0 out of 5 stars A Perfect Match, February 10, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Polk Audio PSW111 Subwoofer (Single, Black) (Electronics)
I started off with the PSW-110 which is a nice sub woofer but too much for the room. Amazon was running a special where I picked this up for free by purchasing at least $500 worth of other Polk Audio products. It worked out that I was looking to purchase a pair of Polk TSi400 speakers so I jumped on this opportunity. The PSW111 is a perfect match for the size of room I have and the hardwood flooring that helps with the low end. Polk Audio has an informative white paper that dispels the myth of inches and watts as the basis for selecting a sub woofer and I recommend this as a resource to help inform your purchase process. The unit is a snap to set up since my Onkyo TX-NR808 has a LFE connection. I only had to select LFE on the back of the PSW111 and I was good to go. The sound quality meets my requirements for both music and home theater. While I enjoy a little low end punch on those movies that benefit from this, I don't need to rattle the neighbors windows and this may differentiate me from others looking for a sub woofer. I also don't listen to rap or hip hop that rely on super bass but I do appreciate realistic acoustic base and the PSW111 does nicely.

What size is your living room?

The room is about 14' x 14' but is also open to the kitchen for about another 16'.

Thank you. My living room is about 23x18 and it opens up into the dining room for maybe another 10 X 13 (drops off into a lower ceiling here). I just want to make sure I get enough sub and amazon is offering this one in a package deal for free right now. The same as you, i don't need anything that rattles the neighbors windows , but I want something that does enhance the listening experience. Do you think this sub can get the job done for me? I was also considering the Polk PSW505. I guess I could always return it since it's from amazon. If anyone has anything to add, please chime in. The deadline for the deal on this sub is in 4 days.

One bit of info that may help you make a decision is that my PSW-111 is set at half volume. I had called Polk Audio about bi-amping my TSi400 speakers the tech support person said he also has the a pair of PSW-111 and loves them (unsolicited response). If you find the PSW-111 lacking perhaps you could add another PSW-111. I really like the smaller footprint of the PSW-111.

Wegap says:
Could you tell me if the voltage rating on the Subwoofer is 110-240V 50/60hz ? Iam planning to get this for my RM95 set, but want something that will work in 240V too
