One of the best Lego Star Wars ships I've seen.,

One word to start this reveiw. Porkins! Wow. Namely Jek Porkins rebel x-wing pilot. Of all the characters they could have included with this set, they decided to go with one of the more obscure ones. Of course someone like Biggs or Wedge might have had the name recognition and been a more logical choice, or even a generic rebel mechanic or officer, but instead we get Porkins. Inspired choice on Lego's part I must say.
Seriously this is one of the best midsize Star Wars Lego sets I've had the pleasure to put together. It's got a good number of pieces for the price, though to be honest I didn't buy my set here on Amazon, but rather I was lucky enough to find it on overstock clearance, after Christmas, at a certain big box store. It was only $40 for me, but it's easily worth $10-$15 dollars more.
The build has a few semi-complex moves, such as back sections that are inserted upside down. Also building the wing structure involves a little patience, since it's four separate wings, held together by elastic bands in the back. I do have to praise Lego for both the ingenuity and sturdiness of the wing section. They are controlled by a knob in the back and kept sturdy by the aforementioned elastic bands. I was worried the bands would break, but I've positioned the wings dozens of times and they haven't snapped yet.
The finished model looks exactly like the ships in the movie, and rigid enough to be played with without parts falling off, except for maybe the long laser cannons on the wing tips, but that's a problem with just about every X-wing toy I've ever owned. About the only other "complaint" is that the droid behind the cockpit sits in sideways, instead of face forward as in the movies, but that's just the Star Wars geek in me talking. Most buyers wont care.
Oh and did I mention it came with Jek Porkins? Way to go Lego!
