Sharpest zoom lens made,
This review is from: Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Standard Zoom Lens (Electronics)
I previously owned Canon's 28-70 f2.8, 24-70 f2.8 version I and the 24-105, and all were excellent lenses. At nearly double the price of the 24-105, the 24-70 II has to really excel to be a better choice, and it does. It is the sharpest zoom lens I have ever used. Pricey to be sure but prime lens quality or better. Colors, contrast and clarity are stunning. Slightly smaller and lighter than version I. Fast autofocus.
Canon bodies have always been as good as any and often lead the market but in the past I could get better photos from a Leica M9 because of the lenses. The 24-70 version II largely eliminates that difference. I am using mine on a 5D III and the the combo is truly the state of the art for a DSLR, which increasingly competes with medium format.
The 24-105 is also a fine lens and will be a better value for many. Before buying consider whether you need the extra stop. I do because I want the shallower depth of field for people .

Hi thanks for the positive review. I just want to add regarding "sharpest zoom"..if you ever need longer reach, try the canon 70-200mm f2.8L IS II. Surprisingly this 24-70 II is more expensive than that lens...thus the reason I still can't justify buying the shorter one yet. However that 70-200 is II would have to be the sharpest zoom lens I've ever used (minus not having tried this lens you just reviewed). Enjoy shooting!
