Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony HVL-F43AM Sony Alpha System HVL-F43AM Flash Unit for Alpha DSLR (Electronics)
First off I bought this for my a33, and have not once used a "proper" flashgun. By proper I mean I have a $50 Bower flash that turns on and flashes, no settings nothing. WOW! what a difference, I had no idea how difficult using a flashgun was. Do not buy this and go shoot a wedding right away without getting to know your flash. I knew it would be different and would need to be learned, however there are so many settings on this thing it's insane. I have had it for 3 days and have practiced with it but have yet to perfect photos taken with it without looking to "snapshotish" This is not a fault of the flash but of mine. It is powerful, it is versitile, it is a lot cheaper than the 58, it has a plethora of useful settings. This is a great flash, once you get to know it and use it correctly this is a beast. Perfect for any Sony SLR/SLT. This was bought to go with my a77 when that is ordered after it is announced. Purchase this flash if you are looking to improve your flash photography or if you need a more versitile flash. If you are familiar with an advanced flash you will have no issues what so ever, if you are not be prepared for learning and frustration, but it's good for you to learn something new.

To avoid the snapshot look use the bounce option and aim toward the ceiling.
