4.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, March 8, 2009
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I had this product for about 25? years until it finally wore out. I was pleased to find it is still manufactured and just ordered one.

I found it to be effective, gentle on the vinyl and virually bulletproof.

It also has a handy self-cleaning device built in and the fluid is injected from the rear, eliminating the problem of spotty wetting.

I doubt there is a better product in this price range

I cleaned about 20 LPs when I received it. The brush got filthy.
Any tips on cleaning the brush?

I've tried wiping it using the included holder. Finally I ran it under hot water (probably a terrible idea) and squeezing the funky dirty water from the brush.

Now I have to wait for all of that water to evaporate, and hope that I haven't ruined the brush since I didn't use distilled water.

Thoughts?

there is a misconception that this, the "discwasher" and similar products can clean dirty records; they can't. their purpose, if you read the instructions , is to keep clean records clean. this brush has a great advantage over the discwasher in that it can itself be washed (with care) to remove accumulated dirt / cleaning fluid build-up. the discwasher could only be replaced. having used various versions of the discwasher over the years, i'd consider this superior to the best of them, especially it's very low static generating effect; many discwashers build up such a charge on a clean record that dust is pulled back onto the record. this cleaner took the basic discwasher principle of oriented, groove - optimized fibers, refined and improved it. as with the discwasher, you have to use the brush after cleaning to remove the picked up dust, re-orient the fibers for the next pass.

for dirty records, there is no substitute for a careful wash / rinse / dry with a cleaning agent suited to the particular kind of crud you're facing; this is something that any serious record collector should learn how to do effectively both for maximizing sound quality and to reduce wear and crud build-up on your stylus.

So what you're saying is that the brush and the solution is just to keep records clean? But not for really dirty jobs...? What would you use for a really dirty record then?

Something like a Spin Clean Record Washing System.

I'm afraid that I would not use one of those; the dirt that gets cleaned off of one record could easily get put onto each subsequent record...

K Pants says:
The Spin Clean fluid contains a flocculant so the dirt falls to the bottom of the "bath" so it won't get on a subsequent record. Unless of course you are cleaning records that were dipped in mud.
