Thanks for the warning. I too have been waiting 'forever' for this film to make its DVD debut, but when I saw the timing factor listed I thought "Hhmmm... Seems to me it was a bit longer than just seven hours when it originally aired..." Dang! So, at least to have to view - it ANY form - on DVD will have to suffice ... till 20 years from now when the 50th anniversary edition has it in its entirety ... right?

I checked my VHS copy of Holocaust and the time listed is the same as the DVD. So I would guess that no scenes were cut. When this series originally aired there was a short recap before the second and third parts were aired. Since this would not be needed for the DVD that could be what was edited out. There could have been music changes. Will not know that until I watch the DVD.

Many important scenes from the original series have been edited. YOu are right, CBS should be ashamed.

After waiting so long for this series to be released on DVD , this sure was a big let down. I have the Goodtime VHS version and although the picture quality is not that great at least it showed the complete series. The DVD version is so chopped up it is very hard to really appreciate the movie. For those who have not purchase this DVD yet, do yourself a favor. Try and find a copy of the VHS version.

I have the VHS put out by WorldVision Home Video in 1983. It gives no indication that any scenes have been cut and lists it as a seven and one half hour original drama, which seems in line with what is on the DVD. I thought of buying the DVD but will stick with what I already have and maybe transfer it myself.

Paramount puts that disclaimer on practically all of their tv-release DVD's these days - just to be safe in case music needs to be changed. That does NOT mean anything was actually cut from this title. This DVD set of "HOLOCAUST" is exactly the same length as the old VHS-tape set from Worldvision Video. NOTHING has been cut from the original broadcast except recap segments. One unsubstantiated rumor starts a bunch of ill-informed people complaining afterwards. Stop the mob mentality. The DVD set is uncut and people who imagine scenes in their heads that are "cut" from this set are simply imagining them.
I will not defend the lack of extras and all that on this set, but b*tching about incorrect facts about this set being edited is ridiculous. And if this original reviewer took his info of the authentic running time off the imdb, that just proves how idiotic this whole discussion is. The imdb is full of incorrect data. And all the lemming reader responses to this false review think he's right and start complaining about the non-existant edits as well. Sounds just like the Nazi followers in WWII. Just accept what you are told to believe.
