5.0 out of 5 stars It's time to wake up America!, November 7, 2011
This review is from: The Harbinger: The Ancient Mystery that Holds the Secret of America's Future (Kindle Edition)
"The Harbinger" by Jonathan Cahn was written for a time such as this, mesmerizing and fascinating from beginning to end. In light of current events, this book is an eye opener for every American. The book is presented in a narrative fashion and uses scripture to demonstrate the ties between the destruction of ancient Israel and America. Anyone searching for answers in the midst of the chaos, unrest and fear that is prevalent in America today will find "The Harbinger" provides a glimmer of hope. Cahn offers these words from scripture "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14. This book surely is a wake up call for Americans to get on their knees and reclaim this great nation before it's too late.

I agree, this book is a wake-up call and America needs to hear the message and repent.... but while I honestly pray I am wrong, I believe it is TOO LATE. In his book, Rabbi Cahn offers only one example of a city (the capital of Assyria - Nineveh) that heeded the warning proclaimed by Jonah - and was thereby spared. The Rabbi suggests that this can be the case too, with America... but where is Nineveh today? Buried under the sands of the desert. My friends, Nineveh too met her end - only 100 years after that first warning was given (and heeded). Judgement was delayed, but it came... and Nineveh was forever wiped from the face of the Earth.

I agree with Lynn. I am always concerned when I hear the "repent and turn before we burn" because it always come back to this-IT IS TOO LATE. We are already under judgment, God has given our nation/people/government over to depravity. But for those who have an ear to hear, individually, turn, trust in the Lord and be a beacon of hope and Light.

Totally true! After 2000 years of doomsday predictions, all backed by biblical scripture, the time has finally come. 'Merica needs to repent, or G-d will come to smite us. I think that this book is NON-fiction, and should be taught in our history classes! Teach the controversy!

First of all, 2 Chronicles 7:14 was applied to Israel, but many people today take it out of context. I understand that many are desperate for America to wake up, and I have experienced that desperation myself as I have seen a blindness in this country that is more bizarre and incredible than anything that any fiction writer would come up with. However, I just want to remind everyone that the Bible itself has predicted a "strong delusion" in 2 Thessalonians 2:8-12, so we should not be surprised at what we see - especially since many professing Christians today are more diligent to defend their favorite teachers than the Bible itself (what kind of impression does that give atheists when they see it over and over again??). Many professing Christians today hold their favorite teachers up as more authoritative than the Bible itself, and then they wonder why this country turns it's back on God??

Second, there are some serious problems with this book - but I would have to write a pretty long article here in order to address them all. If anyone would like to know what I am talking about, you can check out a page on my site called "Resources on The Harbinger". Anyone who is interested can find a link to my site in my profile.

I heard someone recently saying, as you did, that 2 Chronicles 7:14 applied to Israel and not America. I'm confused. Does that same reasoning apply to the 10 Commandments, the Great Commission (just to the disciples), practically every other commandment or teaching in the Bible? I've been thinking of the "universal church-the body of believers" as the new Israel and of "my people" not as America as a whole, but believers throughout the world, including America. It bothers me that now I feel I can't claim that promise from God anymore because I'm not a Jew, at least according to a preacher I heard recently. I don't agree. I think many things that were addressed to Israel initially are to be carried over to the church. Otherwise, why read the Bible at all if you are not Jewish? In other words, I think 2Chronicles 7:14 is saying, "If believers (my people) who are called by my name (Christians)will.....then will I hear from heaven and will heal their land (be it America or Africa). Am I wrong?

A. Metz says:
Bill O'Reilly said in his column on Hurricane Sandy two days ago, "Mother Nature doesn't respect anyone...she doesn't care what kind of person you are"...O'Reilly went on to say that the 'lesson' we all need to learn from Sandy (which struck Metropolitan New York 'bulls eye' ,'coincidentally', days before the National Election) is "we must all learn to be more prepared" for such calamities.

O'Reilly (a 'religious' man who has a 'form' of godliness, but denies the true power) couldn't be MORE wrong in his assessment of "Sandy". A bogus entity known as "Mother Nature" had NOTHING to do with Sandy. Yahweh God, Who spoke to Job out of the whirlwind and Who says in His word "the Lord has His way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of His feet." (Nahum 1:3) is the ONE responsible for Sandy, both for its timing and its location. Romans 1:18 says: "The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all unrighteousness and ungodliness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness.". America has had 'shot' after 'shot' FIRED ACROSS ITS BOW by Almighty God, and America has refused to REPENT. Now, the 'amplitude' and 'severity' of the 'warnings' are going to be multiplied and increased. For those 'Christians' who like the soft, candy-coated 'Gospel', I would remind them that Jesus Christ Himself said, "Unless ye REPENT, ye shall ALL likewise perish." (Luke 13:3). America has been walking in gross sin and darkness for many, many years. Murder, adultery, fornication, and pornography are 'winked at' and endorsed. America doesn't know how to be ASHAMED any more. Now, we have a 'President' who is not only in favor of the murder of babies right up to the moment of birth, but has enthroned and promoted homosexuality all across the board. America is BEING judged economically, socially, morally, and environmentally, but STILL the vast majority of Americans are NOT 'getting it'. Hurricane Sandy was NO 'cosmic accident' or 'fluke' of the weather caused by "Mother Nature", as those who are walking in darkness declare. Almighty God is still trying to GET America's attention. So far, the vast majority don't seem to be 'getting it'. What's it going to take?

Mesmerizing? Fascinating? Seriously?! While I agree, Americans need to humble themselves and turn back to God, I found this book beyond tedious to read. It may have had a "good message" for some, if indeed a person is convicted to follow the God of the Bible, but I couldn't help feeling the author was trying to squeeze OT Prophecy into modern-day America. 9/11 was not the only "breach", what about Pearl Harbor? Was that too a warning from God? The Great Depression was far worse that our present economic situation. Doesn't the New Covenant state that we are under GRACE and that judgment will not come until the Day Christ returns? These are the consequences of sin in this fallen world, not the judgment of God.
