HVLF20S flash quit working after 3 mos. Now out of Sony warranty,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony HVLF20S Flash for Sony Nex Series (Electronics)
Flash worked well at first. But, its location on upper edge of camera is not at all protected. Suddenly stopped working after 3 mos. of infrequent use. No warranty data in advertising, literature in product box or online. Sony support rep states that labor warranty has run out, but refuses to supply warranty data sheet.
However, the weak OEM flash continues to function with camera.

Same thing happened to me and they are giving me the run around. They say its 90 days labor and 1 year parts, but I found the warranty card and its clearly says one year.

I found 6 to 8 more bloggers with premature failures posted on the net. I hope each of them was as persistent as I, and received a free replacement.
Unfortunately, the the written warranty attached to the new flash was incoherent as to whether it would cover another malfunction. Check out David Pogue in the next few weeks in the NY Times. He plans to cover my experience.

As you know, the OEM flash quit working 1 month after the very short warranty ended. Because Sony's warranty was technically over, they put me thru hell and delay before sending me the necessary replacement.
Fortunately, now 2 years later, the replacement is still functioning. But, my trust in future Sony "favors" with continued short warranties is nil. And I choose future camera and TV products appropriately.

I also had this problem and I paid the $35 fee. They end up not able to fix it and gave me a full circle of parts department->technical support department->custom relation department. and around again, at the end, I got angry and start yelling. They gave me full refund of $130 after 2 hours on the phone waiting and talking.

Do you still have the contact info to the customer relations department? Warranty is giving me the runaround after sending it in after about 3 months.
