This review is from: Taken (Elvis Cole/Joe Pike Novels) (Hardcover)
Robert Crais is one of the best three or four writers of contemporary crime fiction. He writes equally well in first-person or third-person, something most writers can't pull off. However, his books have become increasingly violent; TAKEN is over the top for me. Despite the fact that he has become a significantly better writer over the years, I prefer the early Elvis Cole novels with a more reasonable violence level. TAKEN is a very well-constructed story that switches effortlessly between first and third person. It's a page-turner. However, I think I'm done; the violence has gotten too extreme.
