3.0 out of 5 stars You decide if it's a good value, November 24, 2005
This review is from: 9-10" Shiitake Mushroom Log
I had been looking to buy a mushroom log for several weeks. This log seemed like a good value compared to others I had seen listed on Amazon or other sites.

When the product arrived it seemed to me like it was missing several important things:

1. Instructions on how to care for it or how to get the mushrooms to grow.

2. A tray to soak the log in.

I noticed the Amazon product description didn't mention a soaking tray so I checked the vendor (Lost Creek Mushroom) site for product info. I found a description of the log that says 'The single log is 9-10" long but does not have a tray included. An economical way to start growing your own shiitake mushrooms or give as a gift.'

Bottom line: It is economical but the lack of care instructions is a bit much...I'm not going to ding them over the lack of soaking tray since the product description doesn't explicitly state that it includes a tray (so you'll have to provide that which might cost you money depending on what you have available to use). But why doesn't it include care instructions?

Why would you need a tray? Seems to me it would be less messy to just use a plastic garbage bag and soak it in the sink. Maybe it didnt come with one because one isnt necessary... Just a thought. No instructions is kinda weird tho! I wonder if NONE of their logs come with instructions or if yours was a mistake...

I ordered from these guys, and they provided full instructions, which also included free telephone support. I really think that in fairness, your first step should be to contact the company for resolution before posting your review. That way you can give a better informed review, which would include useful information about how the company responds to problems. Every company is going to have something go wrong sometimes. It is much more useful to know how they respond to them.

I realize this review post is old and that the company website might be new. But when I searched for the seller on Amazon I found a listing that shows the instructions and its title. So then I did a web search for that instructions title and the company name came across this site: shiitakemushroomlogdotcom/care&handlingdothtml, replace dot with .
