This review is from: We Didn't Playtest This: Legacies Card Game (Toy)
I purchased this game intending to play it with my husband. We tried it a couple of times. It was incredibly stupid. Not funny stupid, just...stupid. We like some really weird, really dumb stuff, but this was too much even for us.
After playing, we decided that the game is probably more fun if played with 5+ drunk adults, or several 12 year olds. You definitely need a group for this one. With only two players, the game goes from delightfully nonsensical to nearly unplayable. The game is literally over every 60 to 90 seconds. Who wants to shuffle and redistribute cards that often? What is the point of playing? We tried modifying the rules a bit ("you lose" cards instead mean "discard one from your hand,") but even that didn't improve the game much. I did actually try to play with three young relatives, aged 11, 12 and 13. Guess what? It was only marginally less craptastical. They didn't like it much, either.
The game seems to be marketed as whimsical, silly, enjoyably random, but in reality 85% of the cards are confusing, not fun/funny, or just plain stupid--even to middle schoolers. The only plus to the game was that it came with about 20 blank cards, which allowed us to make up our own cards based on inside jokes--and those were the cards that made the game fun. I give this one two very firm thumbs down.
(I purchased Gloom at the same time, and while there is a slight learning curve, that has been much more fun.)
