Martha Stewart has compiled recipes from various regions in America. The books is exactly what it says, American Food. There is nothing terribly forward or unique, this is a good solid collection of well researched recipes.
The book is laid out by region, so there isn't a meat chapter, dessert chapter, etc. However, the table of contents is excellent so this isn't a problem.
Each recipe is accompanied by a picture and a small sideboard that tells about the region and recipe. The recipes are laid out really well, ingredients and directions are clear and precise.
We have lived in various regions of the US, from Newport RI to New Orleans, El Paso, Va Beach, Il, and I can say that the recipes presented in this book are a good representation of the food we ate in various parts of the country.
If you're looking for good solid recipes from different regions of the US, a little food history, and rock solid recipes, Martha's Amer4ican food will be a great addition to your cookbook collection.
