7.5 STARS OUT OF 10!!!
Lisey's Story begins with a widow looking to finally deal with her past husband's belongings. Her husband just happens to be a multi millionaire writer by the name of Scott Landon. As she goes about her business of moving and disposing of her husband's belongings, she starts to have flashbacks of their marraige spanning 20 years. The more she remininces, the more she realizes that her husband had a bit of a secret life that she was not privy to. Throw in a crazed stalker, a depressed sister, some obnoxious made up language, a secret world, and you have Lisey's Story.
This book starts off SLOW. I mean real slow. Slow to the point of taking the book and beating yourself to death with it. During this time you get to know Lisey, her family, and also an ample supply of flashbacks concerning her late husband. They seem scattered and almost meaningless, but around the halfway point of the book, it all seems to make sense. There are a few chilling scenes which rival the creepiness of anything that King has ever done. And that's saying something.
As quick as the story picked up, it slowed back down though. The last 150 pages were long, boring, and predictable. Not predictable as in a keen reader MAY guess the ending. Predictable as in Forrest Gump WILL know the ending before it gets there.
With that said, Lisey was overall a pretty AVERAGE book. There was the potential of a GREAT book during a 60 page stretch about halfway through, but when it was all said and done, the final product was just so-so.
