My take on the combat, and why it's still 5 star worthy.,
This review is from: Gravity Rush - PlayStation Vita (Video Game)
I'm sure as most of you know, this is probably the most popular vita game. So that's why I gave it a shot, and well it far exceeded my expectations. Beautiful graphics, open world which you can explore and collect gems (like Crackdown), and a pretty deep story. Lots of hidden collectibles and even hidden bosses! If there is a Gravity Rush 2 (which I am sure there will be), multilayer would set this over the map as an exclusive Vita title that will be remembered as much as Halo or the like.
Now the controls are what everyone's want's detail on, I am sure you have heard very VERY mixed reviews on that subject. Mainly because, in my perspective the combat only ripens and becomes easier once you level your character up. Progressing through the game I also got accustomed to its mechanics, it almost makes me feel like that's exactly how the game should be played. When you try to hit certain bosses, you kind of zing pass them sometimes, and you must fly into position again, and try and hit the orb again. I feel that is the main issue people are referring to. I feel that, it isn't that much of a problem if you aim accurately and move your fingers quickly. The quicker you get used to how topsy turvy the game gets, the easier the battles will be.
I have been gaming all my life, and I can say that the battles are not bad at all and are pretty fun once you learn the right combos. If anyone is having trouble with sliding or being accurate, all you have to do is tilt your Vita upwards towards your face more and keep it in that position while you are sliding. Almost like a racing controller, it really helps and to me is almost seamless now. To be accurate, if you are flying move your vita around to aim. Using that plus using joystick makes aiming snappy fast. I turned my camera sensitivity almost all the way up, and my motion sensitivity about 30% I believe.
So in my opinion, I feel that this game is just a little to HARD for some people. An I suggest they give it another try, whilst mastering the mechanics and upgrades. I admit zinging past the orbs can be frustrating, but I find the added challenge, and finding what angles to hit enemies, only makes the battles that more fun.
Amazing game with a pretty deep story you should pay attention to. Open world to explore, with lots of hidden items.
With some updates and more DLC, this game could easily be a must own Vita title.
