3.0 out of 5 stars Cheap, but if you like bass, think twice, October 18, 2009
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pyle PL63BL 6.5-Inch 360-Watt 3-Way Speakers (Pair) (Electronics)
No one will argue that these speakers are cheap, but you get what you pay for. They are actually quite good on the highs and mid-range and if that's all you need (ie. if you have a seperate sub-woofer or don't listen to music with much bass) then you can't beat the value. But trust me, if you listen to music with any significant amount of bass these speakers will start to distort at mid-volume level and just sound bad any louder than that. I checked the tech specs. and found the frequency response only goes down to about 90Hz vs other higher-end speakers which generally go down to 30-50Hz.

Yeah these are cheap speakers through and through. Cheap price, cheap materials, and cheap sound too. The highs pop and crackle at low levels and the bass is terrible from half volume up. 360watts? Yeah, in your dreams. The only thing good about these is the price...
.... I think?

Just what I needed to know, don't need bass, have subs for that, needs speakers for mids/highs to keep the bass from over powering the rest of the music

They're not meant for bass. No 6 1/2 inch speakers are. They're meant for mids and highs. Can't stand it when IGNORANT people make bad reviews about a good product.

Useful comment in discribing the performance of the speaker. However, the phrase "You get what you pay for..." is useless. It implies that the more one pays for an item the better it is which is not true in many instances.

Though its been stated here already, I have to add--if you're looking for bass, buy a subwoofer--that's what they're made for. Look at frequency response specs. My $300 home audio speaker down to about 52hz. These go down to 90hz and are dirt cheap. Of course you're not going to get car shaking bass from these, but 90hz is plenty enough to catch most the nuances of say, a bass guitar.
