Elvis Live On Stage In Memphis,
This review is from: Elvis Recorded Live on Stage in Memphis (Audio CD)
Elvis is in fine shape vocally and physically. He has a lot of fun on this album probably because he is playing to his hometown fans.
It is not my favorite of his live albums but it is a very good live show. I do not like it as well as the others because the orchestra only has the brass at this show. It is minus the strings and reeds and the overall effect isn't quite as good as it is on Madison Square Garden or the Aloha From Hawaii Albums.
Hopefully RCA will re-remaster this album and bring out the backbone of the show (the band) a bit more like they did on the recently released 25th anniversary Aloha show.
The horns are overbearing and need to be toned down.
Overall its a good album and worth having in your collection.

Avalon Don says:
New York had the excitement. Hawaii was an event. Memphis has the SET LIST. Look at the songs he does going back to the 1950s. He's Rockin' instead trying to be somebody else like Frank Sinatra. This is Elvis Presley being Elvis Presley. In fairness to this review I'm basing this on the expanded version that came out years after the regular album. To any Elvis fans out there more songs makes this concert 100% better. The 2014 edition puts Memphis on par with the other two and a way better choice of songs.
