This review is from: Siege of Titan (Star Crusades Uprising Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
I agree with the other reviewers who have commented on the editing. There is a great deal of poor grammar as well as frequent overuse of certain adjectives and verbs. For example, in the opening fight scene spartan makes two separate "superhuman" efforts within a few sentences of one another. I'm not normally someone who agonizes over grammar and word choice, but it is, quite frankly, distracting.
Many reviewers have commented positively on the character development and world building. I typically enjoy military SF with highly developed characters and worlds (David Weber, John Ringo, Eric Flint, David Drake to name some of my favorites). Personally, the characters felt rather more like 2D cardboard cutouts to me. Halfway through the book I know less about the main character's background and motivations than I typically do about secondary or even tertiary characters in other books. Its frustratingly vague.
The world building is equally vague and flat. The author does a decent job with the technology, not even close to the standards of many sci fi authors mind you, but it does have the benefit of not boring readers who don't want all the technical details and it hangs together more or less. But the rest is so vague! The confederation is some sort of inter -system government. The zealots are some sort of religious fanatics rebelling against the government and that's literally it. Who needs to know more?
I can at least agree with the other reviewers that the action moves along nicely. If that's your thing you won't be disappointed. The best I can say for the rest of it is that it stays out of the way of the action. To me this felt more like a cheap dimestore thriller in an a flimsy military SF wrapper. I would be surprised if fans of military SF could get into this series. I wish I could have my 3 dollars and 3 hours back.

Gladi I didnt have to write this.
You hit the nail...
I just tried some B. V. LArson and it's not Weber, Haldeman or Peter Hamilton either, but better.
