This review is from: Bloodlines (Hardcover)
Wow, Richelle Mead is amazing. I have been super disappointed with the vast majority of YA books being released at the moment, but reading Bloodlines reminded me why I started reading them in the first place.
To any lovers of the previous Vampire Academy series, who are apprehensive about this new start, DON'T BE! Bloodlines is FABULOUS!
I can't believe how talented Richelle Mead is with character development, she really gets you on Sydney's side straight away and carefully crafts her arc of growth with a really light touch, so that Sydnay can grow in leaps and bounds by the end of the book and yet you hardly notice it happening as you read.
I won't reiterate the plot, but I will say that Bloodlines is a self contained and complete story on it's own, but it leaves heaps for the sequels and ends in such a way that literally brings tears to my eyes because I now have to wait until May NEXT YEAR to read the sequel: The Golden Lily. Honestly, not sure I'll survive the wait. I will have to do some serious re-reading of Richelle's previous books. Man, I hope having a baby won't slow down her superfast rate of publishing because the new series absolutely ROCKS!
Fans of Adrian, rejoice, he is all through the book and such a delight to read... he and Sydney are so different and yet I SO want them to be together. Romance lovers, fear not, while the potential romance is a very subtle, slow-built thing, there is all the makings of just a torturously wonderful relationship as we saw with Rose and Dimitri.
Bloodlines was so far, my favourite read of the year! Buy it at once, you shall not be disappointed!
