Emma Straub's name sounds so familiar to me that I picked this book up because I was convinced I was already a fan of her. It turns out, I haven't read anything of hers before, but after The Vacationers, I am definitely going to read everything she's written!
I loved that this book was written from the points of view of various family members, each so different from the other. I loved that there was a little bit of mystery involved and Straub didn't reveal all from the start, instead opting to slowly release information throughout the story. I loved the smart tone it was written in and especially the sections told from Sylvia's point of view.
I found it appropriate that Maria Semple reviewed the book as if I had to compare The Vacationers to anything, it would be Where’d You Go, Bernadette. Modern, quirky, and smart.
