3.0 out of 5 stars Just Ok, July 24, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: VIZIO M220VA 22-inch Full HD 1080p 720p LED LCD HDTV (2010 Model) (Electronics)
We bought this TV to go on a wall stand up in the corner of our office. It was to replace a 19 CRT. It didn't work out. The picture has a tendency to be dark and none of the settings gave a bright enough picture. The biggest problem was that when viewed from below (The stand is high on the wall and my wife sits at her computer desk near it) the picture would wash out into darkness to point of being unrecognizable. Angling the screen down helped, but did not cure the problem. We finally put the CRT back and moved the LCD to a spare bedroom where it does double duty as a computer monitor and DVD player. It works OK there, but still has a tendency toward darkness when used as a TV. The built in speakers are rather tinny as well. If I was using it regularly I would probably invest in some sort of powered accessory speakers or entertainment system.

Added 8/6/10. After using this for a few weeks, I still agree with everything I wrote above. I took my own advice and picked up an inexpensive set of powered computer speakers and plugged them into the headset jack (the only option for attaching external speakers). It isn't theater sound, but it makes a major difference in the sound. Since it is in a small room it is more than adequate. I attached a set of Coby 50W 2.1 speakers with a sub-woofer. I picked them up a a local Big Lots for $20.

I purchased this tv from Amazon at the time of the switch to HD, and ran it with an $11 Terk antenna (from Amazon, no longer sold) that I had used with the old, analog, TV. It worked beautifully in that apartment, facing all the tv signal towers. EXCEPT that I put it on a 30" high computer table, and the picture was quite dark. Then, ten months later, I moved to an apartment on the south side of the same building, put the Vizio on the same 30" computer desk, used the Terk antenna again, and got a great signal for Over the Air stations (OTA), but the picture was still dark, and after six more months, I could not get ABC-TV OTA, with many tries, and still had a dark picture. The next year (2012) I moved to a new apartment building, where I am now. While the ATT cell phone reception is horrible, the Over-the-Air Vizio, plus cheap Terk antenna, gets everything! AND I put the Vizio HDTV on much lower stand, and the picture is no longer dark! So now I wish I had gotten a similar Vizio with streaming capability.

AS long as it is mounted so you don't have to look up at it at a severe angle, it works beautifully. I use it to do double duty as a monitor for my laptop and a spare bedroom TV on a desk and have no complaints. Mounted on the wall in the corner of our office it was virtually unwatchable from where my wife sat.
