The best console fighting game of 2013!,
This review is from: Injustice: Gods Among Us (Ultimate Edition) (Video Game)
Being a fan and owner of the Mortal Kombat games back when I was in college, I was pretty excited to hear that the same company that made those games was going to be making a dedicated DC universe fighting game for the major gaming consoles. As much as I wanted to go out and pre-order before it was released, I knew from past experience that there would be a slew of add-ons and downloadable content to come out in the months following the game's release, and all of that "bonus" content comes at a price. Game development companies inevitably release an "Ultimate" edition or a "Game of the Year" edition or a "Complete" edition a year later, and in those editions you can usually get all of the bonus content at no additional charge, so I decided to bide my time and wait (impatiently) for it to be announced. In the meanwhile, I played the free version that came out for iPhone and iPad. Netherrealm Studios finally brought out this ultimate edition for the consoles - just in time for the Christmas season in 2013, and I purchased the game a month later, after it experienced its first $10 price drop.
This is a great game that I am glad to own, and also glad to have waited for. If I would have purchase this game at its initial offering and then paid for all of the downloadable content, this game would have cost me over $100. Instead, I got it all for $40, and that was a fantastic deal! The game is fairly easy to learn, and the single-player story is pretty easy to play through, even for a novice player. Aside from the single player story mode, you can also choose to play VS mode either online or right in your family room with a friend on another controller. There are also Challenge missions to play.
My son and I have had a good time playing through the single-player campaign, as well as beating each other up in the VS play. The graphics are great, the super moves are a ton of fun to watch, and the interactive environments are a really nice touch. If you are looking for a fun, thematic fighting game for your console, you won't go wrong with this pick.
