3.0 out of 5 stars Safety features = Bad design, December 15, 2006
This review is from: Cuisinart DFP-7BC 7-Cup Food Processor (Kitchen)
My husband and I have had this appliance for a little over a year, and for the amount that we use it (occassionally), the size is just right. We mostly use it to chop/grate and the end results are good. I've never used it for dough prep, so I can't comment on that.

The one bad thing, though, are the safety features. Only when you have all the parts perfectly aligned will the machine run, which would be fine except that the set up is not intuitive. We fumble around making sure the bowl is lined up correctly--because it fits at many angles, not just one--and getting the cover on is a similar annoyance. The proverbial straw, however, is that you have to use the pusher before the processor will operate. Clearly the safety features think they're smarter than we are, and maybe they are, but they frustrate us every time.

My dad has expressed an interest in a food processor and I'm thinking of getting him one for Christmas, but I will probably get him a KitchenAid because of the safety features of the Cuisinart. If I had it to do over again, I'd get something else.

I see the extra safety features as a real plus, especially for those who might otherwise risk a Cuisinart manicure instead of using the pusher that is provided. If this is the only complaint, then this is a truly fine machine.

Fully agree on the safety feature comment. I actually cracked some of the plastic attempting to get the cover off of the main bowl. Now when the lid is twisted on the plastic that made contact with the safety spring no longer functions. Yes, it was a "user error" that it broke - but you shouldn't have to play rubix cube just to get the lid on and off!
