A Marriage Torn Apart,
This review is from: The Seven Year Switch (Kindle Edition)
My rating is 3.5 stars.
The Seven Year Switch is a short contemporary novella and erotic in nature. The story starts with Kyle and Sonja's first meeting then skips forward to the present and their seventh wedding anniversary.
I can't say too much without spoiling the plot, but I liked the way Sonja confronted the problem straightaway, despite her shock. There was the big blow up, the ultimatum then the thinking time before she decided on a course of action.
Ms. Littlejohn writes smoothly, and I found this a fast, easy read. The story focuses mainly on the heroine, since we don't get scenes written in Kyle's point of view. The emotion crackles between them at the big discovery, but on the whole the story is about Sonja, her reactions and her journey of discovery--her fight for her marriage. I also enjoyed the fact that this story is about an established couple, and the role reversal is a little different from other books I've read.
On the downside, I wanted to know more about Kyle's position and why he felt the way he did. I felt this was a lost opportunity that could have wrung more emotion from the situation. This plot would have worked with a longer length just as well.
I enjoyed this story of a marriage torn apart by a startling surprise, and the journey as Sonja and Kyle put their lives back together again. The strong heroine drives an interesting plot for a quick read when reading time is in short supply.
