PLEASE NOTE THE TWO DIFFERENT MODELS,
This review is from: Sony HDR-CX260V High Definition Handycam 8.9 MP Camcorder with 30x Optical Zoom and 16 GB Embedded Memory (Black) (2012 Model) (Electronics)
While I've yet to use this product sufficiently to review all its features, I felt compelled to warn potential buyers about the fact that Amazon misleadingly aggregates reviews for at least two different models--the HDR-CX260V and HDR-PJ260V. While the two are almost identical, the PJ260V contains an additional built-in projector for watching your movies without needing to hook up the camcorder to a TV or laptop. Amazon uses the same product description for both, however, and applies the same reviews to both models. Therefore, unless you have a sharper eye than I, it's entirely possible to search for the CX260V, then read a number of reviews describing the product's projector; and end up mistakenly buying the CX260V instead of the PJ260V. As I see from at least one of the other comments to comments, moreover, I'm not alone in doing so. As such, if you want the projector, make sure you select the more expensive PJ260V and not the CX260V. While it's not a dealbreaker for me and I'm not sure the projector is worth the extra money, it would have been nice to have made the decision with full knowledge of the distinction.

It seems pretty self-explanatory to me? On the product page there are two boxes. One with projector and one without.

As of right now, there are three different color options to choose from, as well as two different styles (with and without projector). The product description is also different for each, though it is not so obvious as the selection options available directly under the price. Also, the reviews do state which of the two versions is being reviewed.

I'll add my thanks for the heads-up. I was looking at the CX260V and the FIRST review I came to was of the PJ260V. I may have noticed the difference in the product description, but I may also have gone by the review and concluded the description was not complete. Shame on Amazon!

Good catch. I've had similar problems with mixed reviews in other areas. An easy way to tell is that each review starts with "this review is from..." and lists the product. In the case of the "other" model, the "from" description will be a link (typically blue and underlined) instead of black text. In other words if you are looking at the one without the projector and read its reviews, the reviews for the one with the projector will have a link to that model at the start of each review, but just a text description for the one without the projector.

The problem is not the drop down. The problem is that anybody who gets to the item's page by doing a search and then reading reviews might never see the drop down.

Nice catch! Connecting to a projector is the main function I want for this handycam. Thanks for your point out. Whew......
