Rusell has changed.,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Russell Athletic Men's Basic Tank Top Top (Apparel)
I purchased four of these tops to replace previous Russell tank tops. They are NOT the same, thinner material. cheaper material not as soft more synthetic. The collar comes up higher and the sleeve openings are smaller because the staps are wider. Normally my Russell (age) get softer and more pliable. These don't. To sum it up (outsourcing) these feel like the Chinese new and improved version. Go with a different brand.

I dont have to review this because Francois is right. I just ordered 2 got them fast (Thanks Amazon Prime) It is like every clothing manufacturer is experimenting with how thin they can make stuff (reduce costs) before people start complaining. These shirts aren't the WORST I have had that honor goes to Old Navy, but these are definitely middle of the road to on the verge of bad.

Yup... Same experience here. They changed, and not for the better.

These are the "workout" version of this tank. They claim it will now "wick" water away from the body. I teach cardio classes so we shall see if that claim is correct. Normally I wear these tanks to walk around in, but these seem more suited to working out at the gym in. They are definitely not the same tanks they used to sell with the Russell label on the front. I thought perhaps they had run out of the others and made a substitution for me, but it appears that everyone is now getting these. Amazon needs to change the picture and description to include "workout" in the description.

Jim Fellows says:
At least part of the problem is that some of the tank tee shirt colors are only 50% cotton (or less). Last year I bought the light and dark gray tees at a store and they were pilled and old looking after just one cold water washing. I checked the labels and found the "oxford" color is 53% polyester and 47% cotton. Next I checked Amazon to see if they had better quality Russell tees, but the site now says that these colors are not 100% cotton. Are the white tees still good quality? I don't know -- haven't bought any in a few years. I really hope Russell will improve the fabric in the gray color tees. I can't see buying any more of these shirts until they do.
