3.0 out of 5 stars Good Socket, but......, February 7, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Marine Grade Cigarette Lighter Socket 12 VDC (Wireless Phone Accessory)
Bought several of these as extreme use 12vdc sockets in my toyota FJ cruiser. These are good heavy duty sockets, but the weather or dust covers, slightly shrink in the heat and loose their ability to seal in time. You eventually find your sockets unprotected and the cover flopped open and loose fitting. This is an easy fix with some electrical tape or a careful bead of silicon. The Socket is tougher than the cover, so keep that in mind.

Fellow FJer: How long did they last before the cap fitment issue and what region/environment do you operate in (i.e. Arizona, Death Valley, a heat gun factory, etc)?

I live in SW Oklahoma, and we have record heat temps. The cap issue presented it's self after only a couple of 110 degree days exposures. This is when i Noticed all three socket caps were out and hanging open. I popped the caps back on, but they wouldnt stay in place after the heat exposure. I like the durability of the socket alone. I have solved the problem, by scuffing the rim of the covers, and adding a thin layer of black silicone. I have been looking for a 12 socket with a solid snap cap, just because i'm odd like that. Hope this helps.

Hmm... looking at these to replace the junk ones from Pep Boys I put in my FJ Cruiser. It's a small world.
